  1. Everybody around India watched Thursday with great anticipation to hear the verdict in the long-running Babri Masjid case whether it was offices, homes , institutes. As we live blogged our observations, I am glad to put up here people’s views after listening to the verdict as we have so many readers tuned in to participate constructively in this important conversation on our IILM Blog.
I therefore had keen interest in compiling those comments and putting them up together so that we can also have a powerful judgement.
The vast majority of comments were calls for peace and acceptance of the Allahabad high court’s decision to divide the land into three parts, two for Hindu groups and one for a Muslim group. More than 1,200 votes have been cast in the favour of the verdict.
Here are excerpts of what various people in different news channel had to say:
Javed wrote: There are many masjids that stand in need of repair, and it makes more sense to attend to what we have. If the Waqf has resources at its disposal, let it make constructive use of that resource.
Even if the court had ruled entirely in favor of Muslims, and Hindus had welcomed it, would it have bettered your life in any way? The waqf should realize that the presence or absence of a Mosque at the very same place that the Babri Mosque once stood does not in any way enrich the life of Muslims. I believe that the mosque should not have been brought down; but it’s been done, so let’s get over with. Today, both the communities realize that religion is more than a temple or a mosque; so let us live in the present. We have many mosques, let us frequent them.
My view - Best possible verdict! appreciate court going by sense than the book!
Ismail wrote: If anybody thinks that a piece of land can add to the glory of Allah or Ram, then such people are the least qualified to talk about Allah and Ram. Let’s stop being emotional over a piece of land. There was no point in going back to what stood there in 1600, and there’s no point in going back to what stood there in 1992. Let’s live in the here and now, and let’s make our here and now better.
Kawaljit singh offered a suggestion of what to do with the land before the verdict was read: build a school or a hospital instead of a temple or a mosque
Ram K seemed satisfied and hopeful: While unexpected, this was the best outcome that India could have experienced. Hopefully this will pave a process towards reconciliation
Lalatendu Dash wanted to turn people’s attention to the future: Personally I would have loved to have something non-religious in the place but folks.. let us accept whatever it is and move on.. We have bigger things to do.. greater goals to achieve for us and our children. Let us now focus back on building a stronger, more united and more prosporous India.
Prem reacted to the media circus on television as reporters and cameramen scrambled and shouted: Didn’t the government think that they would need a PR person to relay the verdict to media in one voice? Utter chaos with each person saying in his words in his way .
peace and love summed up an opinion in an alias, and added: i don’t think there is any need to fight over mandir or masjid.we have many religious places to show our faith towards god or allah. i think that the land should be used to make school or hospital where people of both religion should serve the society peacefully………spread LOVE and get LOVE in return….
Guys these were some view points of the people being interviewed by different news channels. Come on get up people. Can I have some comments as to what the real youth thinks.
